01 ERLEICHDA 12/22
Erleichda Regular is an elegant yet dually chiseled Latin serif textface which obtains many of its unique features based upon the bestselling novel “Jitterbug Perfume” by the prolific American author Tom Robbins. “Jitterbug Perfume” spans multiple centuries, following a Seattle waitress, family operated parfumerie, and an ancient king. As time spans, each character seeks an old perfume bottle which is thought to hold the secrets to life everlasting. Robbins effortlessly combines realism with fantasy to tell this epic tale and was the main inspiration behind this textface.
This textface features sturdy serif structures and delicate, narrow strokes. Among the many features, most prominent are the unique, triangular terminals and non-traditional counters. Erleichda is designed to be as light-hearted and full of surprises as the novel itself. The name Erleichda summarizes the main message of the novel; a fictional 8th century Bohemian phrase for the term “lighten up.”
This typeface is a work in progress. Revisions, more weights, and additional characters are currently being developed. The type specimen book was created by Richard Lipton’s Fall 2022 Type Design course, printed by Max Beidler and Jacob Hwan Lee, assembled by Emma Noel, Max Beidler, and Matthew Cuscheri. The cover was designed by Hope Wisor and debossed by Jessica Perkins.
